Image
The Joyous

Lakes that join one another: the image of the joyous doubled. Two bodies of water communicate, nourishing one another, each amplifying the other's joy through their sheer proximity. This is the figure of sharing that multiplies rather than divides. Thus the noble one, with his friends, discusses and practices together: true joy, like the water of joined lakes, is never depleted by being shared — it is strengthened by it.

Judgement
Cadence

The clarity of the lake that gathers and holds in common. What gathers without constraint, by the sheer natural attraction of what it offers, creates the most lasting bonds. This line says true community is recognized by the lightness with which it forms.

The six lines

First line

At the base of the earth, fullness stirs: the yang onset that carried the whole figure now yields its place.

Second line

The steadied earth reaches its limit: the solidity that upheld the structure is about to change its nature.

Third line

At the threshold between earth and man, suppleness gathers weight: what once yielded by nature is about to harden.

Fourth line

In the action of man, fullness meets its limit: the initiative that led the figure folds back upon itself.

Fifth line

At the sage's seat, fullness hollows out: the force that governed the figure from its center is about to invert.

Sixth line

At the summit, emptiness reaches its fullest extent and closes: the furthest opening turns toward its opposite.
