Deliverance

Thunder and Rain arise: the image of deliverance. The tension built up in the air is finally released, the storm breaks and purifies what it crosses — a resolution that soothes rather than destroys. This is the figure of relief after constraint. Thus the noble one forgives faults and shows clemency toward wrongs: true deliverance does not stop at oneself, it extends also to those still held captive by their own mistakes.

Judgement
Resolution

The knots of obstruction come loose, the passage opens. What seemed inextricable ends up, with time and the right tension released at the right moment, coming undone by itself. This line teaches that deliverance rarely comes by force — it comes when pressure finally finds its rightful outlet.

The six lines

First line

At the base of the earth, emptiness closes over: what was still an opening begins to fill.

Second line

The steadied earth reaches its limit: the solidity that upheld the structure is about to change its nature.

Third line

At the threshold between earth and man, suppleness gathers weight: what once yielded by nature is about to harden.

Fourth line

In the action of man, fullness meets its limit: the initiative that led the figure folds back upon itself.

Fifth line

At the sage's seat, emptiness fills: the suppleness that governed with discretion gathers a new force.

Sixth line

At the summit, emptiness reaches its fullest extent and closes: the furthest opening turns toward its opposite.
